One of my least favorite days of the year is December 26th. The reason for this is because there is this unwritten rule to pull the plug on all the Christmas cheer. But I believe a day that takes months of preparation and an entire season of covered in glitter should take multiple days in celebration. So, I drink peppermint hot cocoa for days after, do Christmas crafts far into January, and always attempt to keep the Christmas decorations up until February, Valentine’s Day at the latest. Coming from the north, this is much easier than in the sunny, palm tree, Florida that I now live in. Mostly, because the snow starts to really roll in January which makes the Christmas tree and decorations keep the holiday alive.
But, the time between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve is a highlight week. It’s time to take stock of what was accomplished in the prior year and what goals were met. Making a list of all the things that I did finish in the prior year, the bucket list items I can cross off, and the business goals that I met and exceeded, paint a glowing picture for 2016.
Write down your successes.
Too often there is so much busyness in trying to the finish projects, that we forget to take stock of all the things we did in the previous year. It’s important to write these down in order to see where all the hard work went, and where it all paid off.
Chances are this year you’ll be working just as hard, and it’s good to know that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and it’s worth the work. Realizing what you can accomplish shows you what can attain in the New Year.
Now write down your 2016 goals.
Writing goals down means you are more likely to attain them. The reason is that the writing down of goals keeps you accountable. The percentage of reaching these goals increases 20% more when you tell others about them. Same principle applies, now that you’ve told someone what you will do, you have the pressure to accomplish it.
Vision and planning are the tools needed to make the next year all that you want it to be.
